VIDEO: New Veterans Agent Aims to Give Back

William Aitken says he wants the community involved in the office's efforts.

For about a month, William Aitken, a 7-year resident of Dedham, has visited veterans in the hospital, dedicated street signs and begun helping veterans collect well-earned benefits.

Aitken is heading up the in Dedham, and is looking for community members to support those who fought for the U.S.A. by attending public events that will hopefully become more frequent, Aitken said in a recent interview.

"That they actually come and congratulate [veterans] for their service," he said.

The job comes with the challenges of navigating red tape and getting veterans - new and old - the benefits that they deserve, Aitken said.

"I know people who have filed claims who were denied, and it is unjust," he said. "There is just so many ways of doing things in this job with getting them to the proper people that they need to speak to."
