Town Races Quiet Entering February

Few positions have contested races with two weeks left for candidates to pull papers.

With two Board of Selectmen seats open last year, five residents pulled papers to run.

This year, there are just two candidates for one seat - incumbent Jim MacDonald and perennial candidate Sabino "Citizen Sam" Celata, who has pulled forms to run for two other races.

Eighteen days remain for residents to run for office, and a few races have no candidates thus far - including incumbents.

There are three seats open on the School Committee, but only current chairman Kevin Coughlin and incumbent Joe Heisler have pulled papers. Incumbent David Roberts is the others with an expiring term.

Rebecca Peluso currently sits on the Library Board of Trustees, but hasn't pulled her nomination papers for another term. Bob Desmond, a former trustee, will run for office once again.

Planning Board chairman Robert Aldous took out papers for another 5-year term, and Celata and current Town Clerk Paul Munchbach will run for the clerk's office.

Celata also is the only resident to pull for the Board of Assessors.

Candidates must pull papers by Feb. 23 and turn them in with signatures by Feb. 27.

The town election is on April 14.

Correction: Bob Desmond and Joe Heisler pulled papers on Friday with the Town Clerk's Office, however the town had not published the additions on their website by Saturday, when this article was written.
