Town Officials Show Off New DHS Solar Panels

The town received a $500,000 grant from the federal government to construct solar panels on Dedham High School and Town Hall.

Government officials unveiled solar panels on the roof of that will help power the school - the town's largest user of energy.

The project received $500,000 in federal money, secured by U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-9th District), and will go online in the coming weeks, officials said Friday.

"For every dollar spent on this project, the town will be reducing its greenhouse gases and operating costs, while increasing the community's knowledge of renewable energy," Town Administrator William Keegan said at a press conference Friday.

Dedham also plans to place a fewer number of solar panels on the roof of .

The solar project has helped Dedham receive a distinction as aand helped it become a finalist for , officials said.

"I expect that by the time you turn this system on," Lynch said, "I'll hear from some of our neighboring towns to 'do what Dedham's doing' and I think that's a great trend to set."
