Selectmen Notes: VFW Liquor Suspenison Dates Set, Dedham Seeks Poet Laureate

The VFW have dropped their appeal of a seven-day liquor license suspension doled out by the Dedham Board of Selectmen.

The Board of Selectmen voted Thursday to suspend the liquor license for from July 21 to July 25, with two days held in abeyance.

Selectmen voted to suspend the license at a following a report of a major incident during a function in the rented part of the facility back on April 18.

The VFW appealed the suspension last month - originally scheduled to be served in mid-June - but dropped that appeal last week, selectmen said.

VFW representatives are due back in front of the board in September to lay out specific steps they've taken to prevent further incidents.

Resident Brian Keaney appeared in front of the Board of Selectmen Thursday to renew his push for an appointed poet laureate, who would craft poems for historic events in Dedham.

Keaney and selectmen together will develop the description of the position, which must be posted publicly.

The poet could present works at events such as the town's major 375 celebration in September and the opening of the new Avery Elementary School next April. The works would then be preserved at the .

Lemonade Stand Given Town Permits

, which operates primarily at the weekly, received proper permits from the Dedham Board of Selectmen.

With smiles on their faces, the selectmen unanimously approved the vendor permits for the two kids, ages 10 and 7. 

The boys' father, Scott Linari, wanted to secure permitting from the town following an incident last month in Bethesda, Md. where was shut down by the city for not having the proper permits.
