Selectmen Notes: Dedham to Vie for All-America Status; Siemen's on Schedule

Town Administrator William Keegan updated the Board of Selectmen Thursday on one new project, and an old one.

Town Adminsitrator William Keegan told the Board of Selectmen Thursday that the Siemen's project was 76 percent complete and has used 72 percent of its budget.

The $12 million project aims to reduce the town's energy bills by retrofitting some exisiting equipment and replacing outdated boilers. 

Project managers and town officials don't know if the last month at was due to the work done on the boiler, Keegan said.

Keegan said the project is way ahead of schedule.

Dedham will attempt to win the All-America Award status through a very involved application process. Each year, 10 U.S. cities are designated, which can help on grant applications and to bring new employers to a town.

According to Keegan, six Massachusetts cities have won the designation, including Somerville in 2009.

Other Notes

  • The town collected more than $289,000 during their that allowed residents to pay back taxes without interest penalties. About 100 deliquent accounts were brought up to date.
  • The board appointed Dan Hart to the ninth and final seat on the Dedham 375 Steering Committee.
  • Dedham Police Sgt. Kevin Concannon was officially sworn-in for his new role by Town Clerk Paul Munchbach. Concannon is a 10-year member of the force and graduated from in 1994.
  • The board approved more than $27,000 for the education channel budget to be used by DHS and students. Upgrades include a switch from tapes to tapeless and new computers. The money comes from town-collected cable fees.
