Pirates Honored by Dedham Selectmen

Jack and Eric Linari were honored for the second time in four years by selectmen.

Of the roughly 24,000 people in Dedham, not many can say they've been honored by the Board of Selectmen with a certificate of appreciation.

Let alone twice like Jack and Eric Linari, ages 10 and 7, respectively.

The boys received awards Thursday for their continuing work raising money for local charities by selling lemonade a quarter at a time.

"I know you will continue the work," selectman Jim MacDonald said.

Selectmen were impressed with the boys' entrapenuerial spirit, their creativity and their willingness to forego "watching TV and playing video games" to help those in need, selectman Paul Reynolds said.

The boys raised more than $1,000 for the PinkRose Foundation, a Dedham-based organization that gives out scholarships to high school seniors that have lost a parent to breast cancer.

The Linaris completed their fourth year of raising money and are looking forward to 2012, but said they haven't decided on next year's cause.

"Maybe there are some other young people in town that can help and spread the word," MacDonald said.
