Officials to Host Walk-Through at Ames Schoolhouse Saturday

The building is part of a proposed Municipal Campus project.

Residents in Dedham interested in the town's proposal to repurpose the Ames Schoolhouse as part of a new municipal campus will have the chance to tour the building this weekend.

Officials in Dedham have planned a walk-through of the Ames building for Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. The tour will be of common areas only; leased offices are not open for site visit.

The schoolhouse is being considered as part of a proposed development of the new municipal campus for Dedham. A phase of the project would include the purchase and renovation of the building at 450 Washington St. for conversion to a Town Hall and Senior Center. The project would be completed by 2017.

"This is a great opportunity and we should take advantage of viewing a potential site of a municipal campus," said Cheryl Schoenfeld, a Precinct 7 Town Meeting member and Chair of the same precinct.

Presentations on the municipal campus proposal will be made at a Precinct Chairman's Warrant Review Meeting on Monday, May 12, 7 p.m. at Dedham High School. The meeting, which will be continued to Tuesday, May 13 if need be, is open to all Dedham residents, as well as Town Meeting Members.
