Morrissey Topples Over Coffey for Norfolk DA Seat

Current state Senator Mike Morrissey took home a victory over Jack Coffey in Tuesday's election, winning 18 of the county's 20 communities.

Current state Senator Mike Morrissey took home a strong victory against Independent opponent Jack Coffey in a race to the Norfolk district attorney's office.

"It's been a long year and there is still work to be done," said Morrissey, who won 20 of the county's 28 communities and 61 percent of the votes. "I am most appreciative of all of the help by my campaign team."

Morrissey said that he was proud of the fact that it was such a big win in what was an election full of tight races.

The two towns in which Morrisey lost included Coffey's hometown of Needham, where he came away with 47 percent of the votes, as compared to Coffey's 53 percent.

"In this atmosphere, to have this kind of win is both impressive and gratifying," said Morrissey.

Brian Palmucci, Morrissey's campaign manager, said the team were overwhelmed by the amount of support he received at the polls.

"The voters of Norfolk County have shown that they want a DA with the experience and vision to lead the largest law office in the country- the Norfolk DA's office," Palmucci said. "He looks forward to getting work to help keep Norfolk County safe."

Morrissey said that the next step is assembling a team around him. He said that his 34-year friendship and work relationship with outgoing district attorney William Keating, who won his bid for Congress in the 10th District, will help make for a smooth transition.

Meanwhile, Coffey said that he was proud of his campaign workers and that even though he was about 50,000 votes short of a victory, he found the campaign to be a great experience.

"I had a great team of campaign workers who I am exceptionally proud of," said Coffey. "They worked hard and I am honored. I'm actually more disappointed for them than myself because of all the work they've done."

Coffey said that he doesn't know if he will run again in the future, but added that he wouldn't rule out anything.'

Coffey's campaign manager, Kristen Parlon, praised Coffey for running an excellent campaign and also noted the hard work that was involved. She was impressed with how well he did considering he had no political party and was up against a veteran politician with significant money to spend.

"As the campaign manager, I am pleased with the inroads we made and that more than 90,000 Norfolk County voters recognized Jack as the best candidate for the position," Parlon said.
