Locals on Debt Debate: 'Vote 'em Out'

With the U.S. Senate on the cusp of approving the nation’s debt limit, pedestrians in Dedham Square were disappointed Monday evening with how the agreement has been handled by all sides.

"It makes me disgusted that they act like children," said Christine, a Dedham resident who declined to give her last name.

It wasn't just government that some people blamed - but the banking institutions as well.

"I’m firing the banks," said Dedham resident Mark Mullen. "I’m staying [loan] free."

If voter feelings on Monday were any measure of the 2012 election, eveyrone in Washington is in hot water.

"We should vote them all out, every single one of them," Mullen said.

Connie James, a Norwood resident shopping in Dedham, agreed. 

“We need to fire all them all," she said.  She stated that she watched the event progress on television every day. “The Republicans have allowed the Tea Party to ruin their party."

James said the issue has made her more politically involved than she has been in the past.  She added that she is disappointed the Republicans have yet to produce a presidential candidate with substance.

Craig Weiner, a Dedham resident, said the last-minute squabbling to score points with voters - from both sides - makes him want to change the landscape in D.C. He added that the issue has not increased his political interest and concluded that what transpired was not for the people but only for party gains. 

"I would like to vote them all out," Weiner said. "Why does have to come down to the wire?"
