Government Center T Station Closing for Two Years This Weekend

March 22 is the first day of the closure to renovate, update the aging station.

Boston’s Government Center T Station will close for two years Saturday, as part of the MBTA's $90 million project to renovate the station located at City Hall Plaza.

The MBTA expects the station to reopen in the spring of 2016, construction expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of that year.

The project aims to bring the station into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Boston Center for Independent Living (BCIL) agreement, according to the MBTA. Current access to and from the station is provided by stairways and escalators.

Trains will run through the station without stopping during the closure, and as part of the rebuilding, the MBTA will run a special bus route will stop at Government Center, Haymarket and State Street stations, according to Boston.com. Bowdoin Station, additionally, which is usually closed on weekends and after 6:30 p.m. on weekdays, will remain open every day and close daily at the same time as other station.
