Former Dedham State Senator Opens Political School in Boston

From State Senator to political educator, Marian Walsh is teaching candidates how to win.

Former State Senator Marian Walsh opened a campaign school in Boston for interested potential politicians.

Walsh held an American Campaign School & Leadership Camp on November 15 and 16, at the Commonwealth Museum.

The purpose of the two courses was to shape students for the political world.

“We have students who are in graduate school, we have people who have run before and want to win next time… we have people locally from Boston and people outside of Boston,” she said.

The courses offered students an all-around education on how to run for office with faculty members that range from political writers to State Representatives to political reporters, attorneys and social media experts.

“We are looking to invite people to think about running for office, and helping them grow their knowledge and grow their expertise so that they can be affective candidates, be their own person and chose to be a member of a party,” Walsh said.

This is Walsh’s first year running the school and as of last week, it already had 19 students enrolled.

The ACS&LC courses ran from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Walsh advised students to read her book RUN: Your Personal Guide to Winning Public Office, so they could benefit from her personal political experiences.

“I’ve seen a lot of books about strategy and campaign and a lot of books about how to win and I wanted to write a book about how to be a good candidate so you can grow your community and be authentic,” Walsh said.
