Dedham Voters Back Romney for GOP Nod

Mitt Romney took 76 percent of the vote in Dedham on Super Tuesday.

 

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney received 1,420 of the 1,861 votes cast in the Republican Presidential Primary in Dedham on Super Tuesday.

Town Clerk Paul Munchbach attributed Romney's success to name recognition amongst Republican and unenrolled voters who took out Republican ballots.

A little more than 2,700 voters hit the polls on Super Tuesday in Dedham, for roughly an 18 percent voter turnout.

"[It was a] smooth day and great communication between the Town Clerks office, the schools and the ," Munchbach stated in an email Tuesday evening.

Voters didn't have trouble finding new polling locations, Munchbach said, although a few voters went to the wrong polling place initially.

"I felt that the new precincts and the polling location changes provided a new challenge for the clerk’s office, but I believe that we were up for the task," Munchbach said.

Voting at the was not impeded by a at the school Tuesday afternoon.

Ron Paul ran close with Rick Santorum for second place. Santorum, of Pennsylvania, received three votes more than Paul.

According to the Boston Globe, Romney was on track to win in his homestate in a landslide late Tuesday evening. With 47 percent of precincts reporting, Romney had 72 percent of the vote, Santorum had 12 percent and Paul had 10 percent.

Of the 916 Democratic voters in Dedham, 695 cast a ballot for President Barack Obama.
