Danielle Vlahos Wants to Bring Some Fresh Air to Dedham Parks and Recreation

Danielle Vlahos is the manager and fitness trainer for Solid Body Fitness, and is running for a seat on the Dedham's Parks and Recreation Commission.

For Danielle Vlahos, making the decision to run for a seat on the Dedham Parks and Recreation Committee was an easy one.

She already loved the programs that the department had to offer. In fact, her 9-year-old son Cole is very active in the programs.  But she wants to see more programs that can cater to kids that are not into team sports. While at the same time meeting the needs of parents.

"I want to observe and I want to listen," she said. "I know from talking to other parents that we want more variation. I would love to [organize] a running clinic or running club for kids."

Another goal of Vlahos is to create more opportunities for parents and children to become active together.

"I want to get Dedham moving again," she said. "Let's bring fitness into Dedham Day! I would love to have a mini Olympic day with kids and parents. And it's a great way to bring everyone together."

When asked about the elections, Vlhaos is just happy that she is getting the chance to share her ideas.

"No matter where the chips fall and whoever gets the vote, its a win-win," she said. "I just want to put more attention on parks and recs. I'm not looking to change anything, but I wanna add to it by adding fitness."

Election Day for town representatives will take place on Saturday, Apr. 13, 2013 at 7 a.m.
