5 Ways to Get to Newly Proposed Dedham Senior Center

The Dedham Selectmen offered various ways to get to the newly proposed Senior Center after many residents feared it was too far from  the center of town.

Selectmen Chairman Mike Butler said residents can get there by driving, walking, getting a ride from a friend, calling the Dedham Council of Aging and making an appointment to be picked up, or by taking the town bus.

Selectman Camen Dello Iacono said the town is looking to move their bus line so it will stop at the Rustcraft Building.

If the Rustcraft Road Project is approved at next month’s Town Meeting on Nov. 18, a 16,000 square foot Senior Center will be built at 100 Rustcraft Road.

The center will include meeting space,  a function room, a kitchen and private offices.

When presented by the town at an informational meeting earlier this month, many seniors did not like the new location.

Alice Beth, a resident of Mother Brook Condos, said she believes the town does not want the senior center in the center of the town.

“How are people in their 70’s and 80’s and 90’s supposed to get there?," she asked. "There are no busses to get to that location.  Why are the people of Dedham so afraid of having elders  in the center?  .. Why in God’s name can’t we have a senior center in the center of town?.”
