Tow Truck Rear-ends Car, Doesn't Get the Job

A two-vehicle accident on Milton Street Wednesday sent one person to the hospital with neck pain.

One person went to the hospital Thursday after a two-vehicle accident at around 3:45 p.m.

A blue VW car was traveling northbound on Milton Street when it attempted to make a left-hand turn and was rear-ended by a Metro Towing flatbed tow truck, police said.

The driver of the tow truck told police that the Jetta's driver didn't put a turn signal on, and combined with a slippery roadway, he couldn't stop in time, police Lt. Robert Nedder said.

The passenger in the car went to the hospital with complaints of neck pain. The car's driver refused medical treatment, and the tow truck driver told EMS he didn't sustain injuries, according to police.

Police haven't issued a citation at this time, Nedder said.

Liquor theft at Whole Foods Market

A Hyde Park woman is under arrest after allegedly stealing $281 worth of alcohol from Whole Foods at Legacy Place Wednesday afternoon.

Police said Mary McGarty, 47 of Hyde Park, walked into the grocery chain with a shopping cart and immediately went to the liquor section. The store's loss prevention team told police they saw her take five bottles of wine and three cases of beer and place them in her cart.

They say McGarty then exited and attempted to hop into a car waiting for her. Lt. Robert Nedder said that is when loss prevention staff caught her and brought her back into the store and a detail police officer placed her under arrest.

She was expected to be arraigned Thursday in Dedham District Court, Nedder said. The driver of the car hasn't received any citation.

"There's no indication that the driver was a knowing party at this point," Nedder said.
