UPDATED: State Trooper Struck on Route 128

The trooper was taken to the hospital and has been released. A Needham resident has been charged as a result of the incident.

UPDATED (11:30 a.m.) - Massachusetts State Police arrested a Needham resident after her vehicle struck a State Trooper on Rte. 128 in Dedham Thursday night. 

The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, when the trooper's vehicle was struck north of Rte. 109 in Dedham.

"The trooper was inside his marked State Police cruiser and in the process of taking the road construction set up down when was his cruiser was struck in the left rear quarter by a passing SUV causing severe damage to the cruiser," Massachusetts State Police Lt. Daniel G. Richard wrote in a statement Friday morning. 

The trooper was transported by Fallon Ambulance to Beth Israel Hospital in Needham with neck and back injuries; he was subsequently released. 

Police arrested Lillian E. Vespa-Malkin, 46, of Needham, for operating under the influence of alcohol, a marked lanes violation and operating to endanger, according to a State Police news release Friday morning.

A Massachusetts State Trooper was hit by a car while working a contstruction detail Thursday night, according to WCVB.

According to reports, the trooper was taken into the hospital for treatment and did not have any serious injuries.

There is no word on whether the driver will be charged.
