Power Out After River Street Accident, Woman Sent to Hospital

The woman's silver Chrysler Sebring convertible smashed into a telephone pole near 12 River Street.

A 48-year-old Hyde Park woman was taken to Faulkner Hospital by ambulance Monday afternoon after she smashed her silver convertible into a telephone pole on River Street in Dedham.

The woman didn't suffer life-threatening injuries, but police at the scene said she had cuts on her face and may have suffered a broken arm. She was the only person in the two-door 2008 Chrysler Sebring, and both airbags deployed.

Power was out on River Street as of 5 p.m., and an NStar employee was on the scene with  crews to take down the telephone pole and restore power.

River Street between Milton Street in Dedham and Neponset Valley Parkway in Boston was closed down for more than an hour while emergency crews were on scene.

The woman was driving westbound on River Street from Dedham, when she apparently veered off the road near Cross Street. She then went through two front yards before smashing head-on into the telephone pole, taking out a yellow fire hydrant in the process.

Police officers said it didn't appear she attempted to stop, and may have passed out at the wheel. When EMS crews arrived, she was awake and alert, police said.

She will receive a ticket for a marked lanes violation, police said.
