Police: Norwood Man Blows Red Lights, Evades Cops Before Arrest

Sunday, Jan. 29

  • At 1:27 a.m., officer Kenneth Ellis pursued a Ford Mustang that sped an estimated 70 mph on Providence Highway, heading northbound, blowing through a red light near the entrance to the Dedham Plaza. Ellis chased the Mustang into Dedham Square, where the driver blew through another red light and a stop sign, Ellis stated. After losing the Mustang in Dedham Square, Ellis soon spotted the same car fueling at . When confronted, Naman Jain, 29 of Norwood, told Ellis that he believed he could outrun the officer and was scared of being arrested, according to a police report. Jain was charged with three counts of failure to stop at a red light, operating to endanger and failure to stop for police.
  • At 3:14 p.m., no one suffered injuries when a car backed into a golf cart operated by a security guard. 
  • At 8:56 p.m., police received a report of a stolen iPod Touch on Bussey Street. Police have a juvenile suspect.
  • At 9:38 p.m., Dedham Police responded to University Avenue for a report of a woman hit by a car, which then subsequently fled. Dedham Police responded with Westwood Police to the MBTA Rte. 128 train station. MBTA Transit Police will investigate.

Saturday, Jan. 28

  • At 10:34 a.m., police responded to Washington Street for a three-car accident. No injuries were reported at the scene.
  • At 12 p.m., police fielded a stolen vehicle report for a 2007 Honda Civic coupe.

Friday, Jan. 27

  • At 3:53 p.m., police arrested a pair of Roslindale residents for allegedly trying to steal $322 worth of groceries from . The pair were both charged with larceny over $250.
  • At 5:56 p.m., police arrested a juvenile for assault with a deadly weapon. Police didn't release the full report due to the suspect's age, but reports state the incident took place on Thursday on O'Brien Way and involved a juvenile victim.

Thursday, Jan. 26

  • At 1:26 p.m., a resident reported a possible international computer hacking scheme to police. The man said two callers attempted to get the Dedham resident to pay $214 for computer repairs.
  • At 4:23 p.m., police responded to Evergreen Way for a report of stolen earrings.
  • At 8:15 p.m., police arrested 40-year-old Anthony Saunders, of Roslindale, for allegedly driving with a suspended license and speeding near on Washington Street.

Wednesday, Jan. 25

  • At 4:54 p.m., Dedham Police arrested Michael Kachel, 31, with resisting arrest, trespassing and disorderly conduct. A Washington Street business notified police that Kachel, who was previously trespassed from the business, returned to their location. When police located Kachel, he attempted to take off and refused to be handcuffed, according to police.
