Police Log: Unfounded Amber Alert Sightings, Man Charged With Check Fraud

The following information was supplied by the Dedham Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the  log from July 11-14. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account.

Monday, July 11

  • At 9:28 a.m., Ambient Temperature Corporation reported roughly 200 feet of copper wire stolen. 
  • At 2:06 p.m., police arrested 33-year-old Matthew Lyden, of Hyde Park, for allegedly trying to cash fake checks at . Lyden told police that he forged a friends signature and tried to cash checks from a closed account, according to police reports. Lyden is charged with three counts of check forgery, two counts of uttering a false instrument and larceny over $250.

Tuesday, July 12

  • At 12:10 a.m., a resident reported to police that he purchased a $100 Rosetta Stone CD, but it turned out to be faked. Police have a suspect, according to reports.
  • At 10:34 a.m., a caller reported that someone had used their debit card number for $123 in purchases.
  • At 2:42 p.m., a driver on Washington Street called police to report a road rage incident after another driver allegedly made threats, then took off toward Dedham Square.
  • At 4:05 p.m., a resident reported jewelry missing from their room.
  • At 5:16 p.m., police arrested 19-year-old Luz Bonilla, of Dedham, for allegedly trying to steal from by tampering with price tags, according to reports.
  • At 5:43 p.m., an employee of reported that three women fled the store with "unknown items," according to police.
  • At 6:16 p.m., four teenagers were apprehended after they allegedly set fire to trash barrels on Eastern Avenue. They were returned to the station and police notified their parents.
  • At 8:25 p.m., one person was sent to the hospital after a hit-and-run accident on Stormy Hill. A blue Jeep was seen fleeing the scene in the direction of Oakland Street.

Wednesday, July 13

  • At 1:35 p.m., a driver was sent to the hospital after their car rammed into a telephone pole on Pine Street.
  • Police checked Wednesday afternoon on two calls about possible sightings of a suspect involved in an Amber Alert, who was wanted in connection to a triple homicide in upstate New York. Police investigated both sightings, and both times searches were met with negative results.

Thursday, July 14

  • At 4:56 a.m., a caller reported that a cat was killed by a loose dog or coyote near Oakdale Avenue, and another cat was still unaccounted for.

Statement from the 

The Dedham Police Department would like to announce that they will be conducting compliance checks of liquor establishments within the Town of Dedham.

We will be checking to see that all the rules and regulations set forth by the Town of Dedham Board of Selectman, the licensing authority within the Town of Dedham, are strictly adhered too. This may include sting operations targeting service to underage patrons.

We will also be looking for establishments serving intoxicated patrons. Our goal is to be sure that that liquor license holders, within the town, follow the rules that have been established to keep our community safe. This will serve as a public announcement.
