Police Log: Theft Suspect Arrested After Trespassing

The following is an excerpt from the Dedham Police Department log from Feb. 17-20. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account.

Monday, Feb. 20

  • At 8:32 p.m., police arrested 68-year-old Luba Grishina, of Newton, for allegedly stealing $35.35 worth of merchandise from Costco.

  • At 8:55 a.m., police responded to Beech Street for a report of malicious vehicle damage after a car window had been smashed. Nothing was missing from the car.
  • At 12:54 p.m., police arrested George Vasil, 38 of West Roxbury, for allegedly shoplifting from Radio Shack. Vasil admitted to police that he stole a pair of headphones from the store, according to police reports. Vasil was immediately trespassed from the Dedham Mall area. Less than an hour later, a Dedham officer saw Vasil back on mall property. Police stated Vasil attempted to flee police when confronted, and was wrestled to the ground and apprehended. Vasil faces charges of shoplifting, trespass and resisting arrest.

Saturday, Feb. 18

  • At 10:49 a.m., a driver stated she was distracted by another car accident on Providence Highway and rear-ended a car in front of her, which hit a third car. No occupants reported injuries at the scene.
  • At 3 p.m., a resident reported to police that her credit card had been stolen and used four times. She canceled her card.

Friday, Feb. 17

  • At 5:28 p.m., police reported that they will be seeking a complaint against an unidentified Hyde Park woman for allegedly stealing a 12-pack of beer and a bottle of wine from Whole Foods. She was trespassed from the store in 2010 after allegedly shoplifting.
  • At 6:27 p.m., police were alerted to a theft on Dartmouth Avenue. The complaintant stated she left her iPhone in her unlocked car for just a few minutes while she went inside a home. When she came back out a short time later, the phone was missing.
