Police Log: Stolen Laundry, Illegal Sales and Shoplifting

Monday, June 11

Norwood Man Arrested (5:16 p.m.) - Dedham Police arrested a Norwood man for trespassing on Veterans Road.

Laundry Stolen (6:30 p.m.) - Police received a report from a local resident who claimed that a bag of laundry was taken from the back seat of his vehicle. The individual claimed that he had parked his vehicle in front of the East Dedham Plaza at around 4 p.m., and had put a bag of clean laundry in the rear seat, but did not lock his vehicle. He then walked around the rear of the plaza to admire the geese, and upon returning to his vehicle found the laundry to be missing. The bag contained two to three pairs of jeans, two shirts, socks and underwear, according to reports. 

Warrant Arrest for Dedham Female (5:13 p.m.) - Police arrested a Dedham woman on a warrant on Chauncey Street.

Unauthorized Stereo Sales (11:28 a.m.) - Police responded to on Providence Highway for a report of a suspicious white Ford Windstar, at which its occupants had been attempting to sell stereo equipment. Upon arrival, police discovered no sign of a van, but when driving to the other side of the Dedham Mall, found the vehicle with California license plates. The rear door was open and a male had been there, walking away with a "medium-sized" box that appeared to contain stereo equipment. The man later found that the contents of the box were not on par with what he believed to be inside, and his money was returned to him. Another individual by the vehicle claimed he had not obtained a permit to solicit from Dedham Police, and officers notified him that he was in violation of town bylaws and would have to stop sales of equipment from the vehicle. Police also found, through the California Department of Motor Vehicles, that the van's registration had been suspended, and it was later towed from the Dedham Mall.

Wednesday, June 6

Shoplifter Arrested (7:30 p.m.) - A 57-year-old Randolph woman was arrested at the Dedham Mall for shoplifting. The suspect was being held by loss prevention at a business in the mall after staff saw her placing items into her purse before leaving the store. The items totaled to $355.50.Police charged the woman with larceny over $250. 

Suspicious Activity and Missing Items (4:28 p.m.) - Police received report from a local resident of suspicious activity when she was unloading groceries from her vehicle into her home. The resident reported that a male approached her and claimed that he was cutting a tree down at a nearby home and asked to look at her back yard. The male then offered to help the resident with her groceries, but after a while she grew suspicious that the man was attempting to distract her. When she asked him to leave, the man made a call from a cell phone and spoke in a foreign language before leaving the property. When the resident entered her home, she found certain items missing. The man is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 30 years old with a heigh of about 5 feet, 7 inches and wearing a blue baseball hat and a navy blue shirt with white writing on the sleeve. The matter is under investigation. 

Tuesday, June 5 

Local Man Arrested (9 a.m.) - Police arrested a Dedham man on two warrants on Needham Street.
