Police Log: Roxbury Woman Arrested for Stealing Wallet at Legacy Place

Monday, April 7

At 6:38 p.m., police received a report of a bird stuck in a chimney on Coronation Drive. The Dedham Fire Department responded and removed the bird.

At 5:53 p.m., police responded to TJ Maxx on a report of a shoplifter in custody. Officers spoke with staff at the store, who observed an individual concealing merchandise that consisted of children's clothing, accessories and some adult clothing, all valued at $186.31, according to police records. TJ Maxx staff said they would seek a complaint. 

At 9:56 p.m., Dedham Police arrested a West Roxbury woman for driving under the influence of liquor in the area of Common Street in Dedham.

Wednesday, April 9

At 2:50 a.m., police responded to Dunkin Donuts on Bussey Street on a report of suspicious activity. A staff member explained that while doing prep work in the kitchen prior to the store's 5 a.m. opening, she heard banging on the window. Police were able to locate the man who was banging on the window on High Street. The man said he had knocked on the window to get the staff's attention, as he was looking for a drink. He said he saw the woman inside Dunkin Donuts, and after receiving no response, walked away. Police discovered a straight warrant had been issued for the man out of Dedham District Court and a default warrant had been issued for him out of Malden District Court. Police arrested the man, John Earl Anderson, 30, of Dedham, and transported him to the Dedham Police Department. 

At 6:31 p.m., police responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident on the East Street Rotary. A female driver riding a motorcycle said she was hit from behind by a vehicle, causing her to fall off her motorcycle. The woman wasn't injured, according to police reports, but the front fender of the bike was damaged. She was not able to obtain information on the other vehicle except that it was a tan sedan. Police reported the matter and advised the woman to contact her insurance company. 

Thursday, April 10

At 10:45 a.m., police received a report of a stray dog in the area of Highland Street. The Animal Rescue League was contacted and said they would contact the department with information; officers checked the area but were unable to locate the dog.

At 11:30 a.m., police received a report of a suspicious bag under bushes on High Street. The bag was determined to be filled with clothes and belonged to an individual inside the courthouse. 

At 7:42 p.m., police responded to Sears on a report of two small children being left unattended inside a vehicle. Officers spoke with the older of the two children, who appeared to be fine. When the parents exited the store, officers informed them that they would notify the state Department of Children and Families. 

Friday, April 11

At 5:55 p.m., police responded to the area of Providence Highway near PetCo on a report of a toddler standing in the middle of the roadway. Police learned the child lived nearby, and spoke with a resident and a teenage girl who said she was a cousin of the child and she was watching him because the child's mother was at work. The door to the home had been reportedly closed, but the teenager said the wind may have blown it open. Police determined the incident to be an isolated one and not caused by neglect. 

Saturday, April 12

At 6:08 p.m., police responded to Legacy Place after receiving a report of wallet theft. Officers located the suspects in a grey sedan in front of Blue Mercury, and spoke with the occupants, who told police they couldn't search the car. Officers also obtained surveillance footage showing the suspects taking the wallet in question, which was left on a waiting room seat inside Love Culture. Officers found the wallet inside a ripped-open pillow inside the vehicle. Police subsequently arrested Joneisha James, 23, of Roxbury, for larceny under $250.
