Police Log: Rowdy Crowd at Expressions, Shoplifting at Dedham Mall

The following information was provided by the Dedham Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned, they do not indicate conviction.

Sunday, Dec. 22

At 2:07 p.m., police responded to Sears after receiving a report of shoplifting by a juvenile. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the alleged shoplifter, whom loss prevention staff reported attempted to steal items worth approximately $199, according to police reports. 

At 3:45 p.m., police responded to The Paper Store at Legacy Place on a report of shoplifting. Upon arrival, managers at the store told police that a female individual had placed several items into her purse while in the store before leaving, according to reports. The items were valued at approximately $134, according to police reports. Police confronted the alleged shoplifter, discovered the items and determined that they were from the store; the suspect was then placed into custody and brought back to the Dedham Police Department.

Saturday, Dec. 21

At 10 a.m., police gathered to maintain a crowd of 75-100 people gathered at Expressions Shoes in the Dedham Mall who were waiting for a sneaker release. Officers occupied the scene to maintain order for nearly 40 minutes after much of the crowd became agitated while attempting to enter the store, and officers later spoke with store officials about safety hazards involved with large crowds, according to reports.

Friday, Dec. 20

At 3:34 a.m., police responded to Pep Boys on Providence Highway in response to an alarm that had gone off at the store. Upon arrival, officers discovered a door had been opened by tires that fell over and slammed into the door. Upon further investigation, officers determined nothing to be out of order or suspicious and secured the doors. 

Thursday, Dec. 19

At 12 p.m., police responded to the Dedham Mall after receiving a report from an individual that their wallet had been stolen while in the area. The victim informed police that she had been shopping at one of the stores in the mall, and while selecting a number of gift bags, a woman approached her and asked her if she knew were a certain set of bags had been located. After a brief discussion, the second woman left the store, according to police reports. The victim discovered her purse had been unzipped and her wallet missing while she was purchasing her items, according to the report. 

Wednesday, Dec. 18

At 10:52 p.m., Dedham police responded to the scene of a report hit-and-run accident involving the collision of two vehicles in the area of East Street and Jefferson Street. The force of the collision caused the front license plate to come off the vehicle that had been struck. No personal injury was reported in the accident.
