Police Log: OUI Arrest, Speeding BMW at Legacy and Attempted Knifepoint Robbery

A look at police incidents in Dedham through the weekend.

Knifepoint Robbery

Dedham Police responded Friday afternoon to a report of an attempted knifepoint robbery at . The unidentified victim told police that the man was about 30 years old, was wearing a black trench coat and jeans. He had a slim build and a goatee.

Police dispatched to the area, but after "several minutes," the search was met with negative results, according to police reports.

West Roxbury Man Charged with OUI

William Joyce, 23 of West Roxbury, was charged with OUI and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage early Saturday morning.

Joyce allegedly hit another car at the intersection of Providence Highway and Legacy Boulevard. The driver went to the  after the accident and told police that a black Jeep Grand Cherokee hit him from behind while he was stopped at a red light, and then the Jeep sped off.

Police saw the Jeep driving northbound on Washington Street past the police station as they talked with the other driver. Officers immediately pulled over the Jeep, according to reports.

Officer Timothy Miranda stated in his report that the Jeep's driver, Joyce, had an odor of alcohol on his breath and his eyes were glassy. Miranda stated that Joyce couldn't complete three field sobriety tests and he was arrested. 

Speeding BMW Driver Cited at 

Dedham Police cited a driver of a BMW Saturday afternoon after he sped at a high-rate of speed throughout the Legacy Place parking lot, according to officer John Nolan, who was working a private detail at the time.

Police didn't release the driver's name, who they estimated was going 40-45 mph.

The driver allegedly laughed and gave a crude gesture to Legacy Place security officers and a police officer when they attempt to stop him. It wasn't until Sgt. Michael Buckley stepped into the middle of the road in front of the car that the driver stopped.

Car Broken into at 

A man told police Friday morning that his car was broken into at around 7 p.m. Thursday while he was at Joe's American Bar and Grill on Providence Highway.

Someone smashed a car window and stole the man's work laptop and some personal information, according to police reports.
