Police Log: Norwood Man Arrested for Allegedly Breaking into Home

The following is an excerpt from the Dedham Police Department log from Sept. 20-22. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account.

The following information was supplied by the Dedham Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Norwood man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly to tried to break into a Washington Street home.

Guy Lee Smith, 56, allegedly smashed a back door window while a resident was home. The witness told police that she took down the license plate number and police traced it back to Smith, a police report stated.

The woman told police that she screamed and Smith fled down the stairs and away from the home.

Police arrested Smith at around 12 p.m. at his Norwood apartment, four hours after the incident took place, according to reports.

Smith was charged with daytime breaking and entering and destruction of property.

Thursday, Sept. 22

  • At 5:51a.m., police resonded to the Endicott MBTA train station for a report of an assault. The MBTA issued a summons to Justin Ryan Dateo for allegedly hitting a conductor with a book. EMTs transported one person to Norwood Hospital.
  • At 12:27 p.m., a four-car crash on Providence Highway sent two to the hospital with injuries.

Wednesday, Sept. 21

  • At 6:18 a.m., a caller at reported that someone had spray painted on a door of the business.
  • At 10:52 a.m., a caller reported items taken from his car on Providence Highway.
  • At 11:45 p.m., a caller told police that their bicycle was stolen from outside of a Bridge Street business.
