Police Log: More than a Dozen Vehicles Entered, Some Unlocked

The following information was provided by the Dedham Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned, they do not indicate conviction.

Monday, Feb. 24

At 11:04 p.m., Dedham police received a report of a stolen Ford 250 truck in the area of River Street. The vehicle was stolen sometime on Feb. 22 around 4:30 p.m., with no plates on the truck, according to police records. As a result of the investigation, Westwood Police located the truce behind the Islington Train Station on Carroll Avenue in Westwood. 

At around 6 p.m., police responded to CVS on Eastern Avenue regarding a report of shoplifting. Upon arrival, police spoke with a store manager, who stated that a juvenile suspect had tried to steal a tee shirt, two boxes of snack bars and package of Gusher Fruit Snacks with a total value of close to $27. Police contacted the suspect's parents, who picked the individual up at the Dedham Police Department.

Tuesday, Feb. 25

At about 7:58 a.m., police responded to Congress Place regarding a report of a vehicle that had been entered. Police investigated and determined that the vehicle had been unlocked, as the owner claimed there were no signs of forced entry, and a black wallet was taken from the vehicle.

At 8:22 a.m., police received another report of a vehicle that had been entered, appearing to have been ransacked. All items in the vehicle's glove compartment and center console had been taken out and left on the seat of the vehicle and a GPS unit was reportedly stolen, according to police records. The vehicle was reportedly unlocked, and there was no noticeable damage.

At 10:35 a.m., police responded to a building that was reportedly entered overnight on Bussey Street. Police investigated and determined that it appeared someone had tried to gain entry to the building but was unable to do so. Police observed damage to two screens on one side of the building. 

At 1 p.m., police responded to the Dedham Health and Athletic Complex on Providence Highway. There, an individual said she had entered the gym and while inside, the passenger side window of her vehicle had been smashed, and taken from within was a bag containing clothes and personal items, as well as a laptop worth about $1,500.

At about 2:25 p.m., police responded to a report of another vehicle entered at the Dedham Health and Athletic Complex. The owner of the vehicle told police that while inside the gym, she was notified by staff that her vehicle had been entered, and when she went to inspect, she found the vehicle's passenger side window had been smashed and taken from within was a purse that did not contain her wallet, credit card, cash or other identification, as well as a Samsung smart phone. Damage had also been done to the frame around the window. 

At about 3:29 p.m., police received a report of a vehicle that had been entered on Curve Street had been entered and an iPod with an auxiliary cable had been missing. Loose change that had been in the center console had also been missing. The vehicle was believed to have been unlocked. 

At about 7:04 p.m., police responded to a report of a fight at the Four Corner Citgo station. Upon arrival police determined the fight lasted a couple of seconds and was broken up by the station's owner. No one was injured.

Wednesday, Feb. 26

At 7:30 a.m., Dedham Police responded to reports of vehicles entered on Curve Street. Officers spoke with the owner of a vehicle who claimed that on Feb. 25 at 8 p.mm. and in the morning of Feb. 26 his vehicle had been entered and items had been taken from within, including a Garmin GPS valued at $80. Also taken was a set of speakers valued at $180. The vehicle reportedly smelled of smoke, though the owner told police he doesn't allow smoking in the car, according to police records. Another vehicle had been reported entered in the area, though the owner did not believe anything was taken form inside.
