Police: Drunk Shoplifter Causes Scene at Sears

Dedham Police arrested a 55-year-old Roslindale woman for allegedly shoplifting and assaulting two officers.

Police arrested a 55-year-old Roslindale woman Tuesday morning for allegedly attempting to steal $264 worth of merchandise at , and then causing a scene and assaulting two officers, reports stated.

stated they believed Janet Perella was drunk when she put on a pair of earrings, a watch, sneakers and shorts she took off the rack at Sears without paying for it, reports stated.

When police confronted Perella, officers Michael Doyle and Michael McMillan said Perella verbally threatened and cursed at both of them. She then kicked both men and attempted to spit at McMillan.

Officers stated the woman was uncooperative and swearing loudly throughout the interview at the store, and continued as they escorted her outside to a police car.

A Sears employee told police that Perella had attempted to steal from Radio Shack before coming into Sears, but was confronted and returned the merchandise.

Perella was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct, and larceny over $250.
