Police: Man Stabbed Self, Assaulted Girlfriend

David M. McManus, of Dedham, was arrested in Roslindale Sunday.

Bail was set Monday at the hospital bedside of a Dedham man who allegedly stabbed himself with a steak knife, assaulted his live-in girlfriend and then fled to Roslindale in her car.

David M. McManus, 49, faces several charges, the most serious include witness intimidation, domestic assault and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Bail was set at $10,000 cash or $100,000 bond, according to court records.

Following an argument at his residence in Dedham on Sunday, McManus stabbed himself n the stomach with a steak knife and left his home, according to police reports. McManus then re-entered the home and began assaulting his girlfriend, stole her purse and fled Dedham in her 2006 Nissan Altima, police stated.

While police took the woman's statement, they received a report that McManus was at Fallon Field in Roslindale. When arrived with Boston Police, they found McManus in a fight with his girlfriend's ex-husband, according to court documents.

McManus allegedly bit the man's ear, and faces charges in Boston of mayhem, receiving a stolen vehicle and assault.

Emergency crews transported McManus to Brigham and Women's Hospital to be treated for his injury, according to court documents.

McManus is due in on Nov. 21 for a pre-trial hearing.
