MSPCA-Angell, ARL Rescue 35 Animals from Unlicensed Petting Zoo

A dozen animals were brought to the ARL's Dedham shelter. One Ludlow man was arrested and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty.

Officials from MSPCA-Angell in Jamaica Plain and the Animal Rescue League of Boston joined forces last Friday, Feb. 7 to recuse 35 cold and emaciated animals from an unlicensed petting zoo in Ludlow, according to the ARL on Monday

Most of the animals were found to be severely emaciated, and 12 of them – including  two mini-donkeys, two donkeys, two ponies, two sheep and four goats – were brought to the Animal Rescue League's Dedham shelter for immediate care, according to the ARL. The MSCPA, in turn, brought the remaining animals to its Nevin's Farm

As a result of the rescue, the MSPCA-Angell's law enforcement department charged one Dean Manual of Ludlow with up to 36 counts of animal cruelty with additional charges for assaulting a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest, according to the ARL.
