Kitchen Fire Leads to Explosion, Family is Safe

It started as a small kitchen fire, and ended with an explosion.

Dedham Fire Department received a call at 3:45 p.m.  The family who resided at 84 Curve Street, reported a small kitchen fire on the second floor of the two-family home.

But by the time fire trucks arrived at the scene, no one thought that this fire would lead to an explosion.

"It was smart for the family to call ahead when they did....all were able to get out safely," Dedham Fire Chief, William Cullinane said.  "We were all surprised... we didn't think it was going to be this bad."

According to Chief Cullinane, they are still investigating the exact cause of the flames.  However, they believe that this was done by accident.

At this time names are not being released, but when we tried to ask the victims how the fire started, one of the female victims started to tear up and refused to comment.

According to the fire department, they are still looking to see if it's safe for the family to return to the home- due to the amount of smoke and water damage.
