Firefighters Rescue Dog from Fairfield Street Fire

Golden Retriever puppy rescued and doing fine.

Dedham Firefighters rescued a Golden Retriever puppy from a house fire at 20 Fairfield St. just before 7 p.m. Monday night.

First arriving engines reported smoke showing from the house and immediately entered to conduct a search for victims. They found a Golden Retriever puppy in a cage while searching a smoke filled room and immediately carried it to awaiting Paramedics.

Paramedics Priscilla Braley and partner Sean Connolly administered oxygen and some water to the frightened puppy who, after some tender loving care and a lot of affection, seemed to be just fine.

The fire caused extensive damage to the two story home and the cause has been determined to be the result of careless disposal of smoking materials.

Damage was estimated at $50,000.

The dog was a Pekenese, not a Golden Retriever puppy.
