Dedham Police Warn Residents of Several Phone Scams

The Dedham Police Department has alerted residents of several active scams that have been reported by residents and business owners.

Police said a variety of different  “con artists” have called residents requesting bail money for relatives. Some pretended the victims have won a prize but need to pay taxes or shipping fees up front, while others have claimed to be from utility companies demanding payments.

Dedham Police said there are two important things to watch out for that should send up a red flag:

1. The caller requests or demands payment for a prize, a bill or for any other  reason be paid by Western Union or Green Dot cards. This is not the way  legitimate business conduct business. This is the equivalent of sending cash, 

2. The second is that “ if sounds too good to be true then it probably is.”
