Dedham PD Followed Through on Neighbor Complaints

Following a "Town Hall to Your Neighborhood" meeting Monday, the department spent two days handing out violations for issues residents raised.

The message from Monday night's neighborhood meeting was loud, and the evidence shows the police department heard it very clear.

After residents complained of speeders on Fox Meadow Lane, heavy and noisy trucks on East Street, "dirt bikes" on in the neighborhood around Greenlodge Street, and illegal parking at schools, police stepped up enforcement this week.

"We have directed our traffic unit and sector cars to dedicate some time to monitor the areas that were mentioned on Monday evening," Lt. Michael d'Entremont said in an e-mail Thursday.

Police logs from Wednesday and Tuesday reflect patrols of Vincent Road with seven unspecified violations issued, of Greenlodge Street with no violations issued, and three tickets issued between Cedar and Sprague streets.

Four drivers were cited for blowing a stop sign on Fox Meadow Lane, although none were caught for speeding.

Patrols of East Street to monitor tractor-trailers on Tuesday yielded no overweight trucks and no uncovered loads, according to police reports. On a second go-round, police issued two unspecified tickets on Sprague Street, but according to the police reports not for "uncovered loads."

In all, 10 hours of patrols in the last two days turned in 21 citations, according to d'Entremont. He added he didn't have a breakdown of the charges.

"Traffic is an issue throughout the Town.  We will continue to target problem areas throughout the Town for traffic enforcement," he said.
