Dedham Man Arrested for 'Using U-Haul as Residence'

Brookline Police initially stopped stolen vehicle on VFW Parkway in West Roxbury, and Boston Police arrested suspect. The following information is from the Boston PD, and an arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Brookline Police stopped a Dedham man, who was seemingly living out of  that he had not returned.

Boston  arrested Richard Pavidis, of 7 Ware St., Dedham, on Jan. 28 around 7:51 a.m. at 944 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury, and charged him with using a motor vehicle without authority.

A U-Haul employee on scene, who called 911 after seeing the stolen vehicle told police the vehicle was two months overdue, and Pavidis had not returned the previously-leased vehicle. The suspect allegedly told police he intended to return the vehicle. But officers observed the suspect was "clearly using the vehicle as his residence." Officers saw clothing, shoes, food, personal hygiene products, as well as various personal possessions in the cab of the vehicle, according to a Boston Police report. The back of the van had the suspect's property including chairs, a washer and dryer, power tools and more.

Brookline Police had stopped the driver after hearing a description of the vehicle broadcasted. 

The U-Haul employee told police he would tranport the vehicle back to the U-Haul facility at 1550 VFW Parkway.
