Dedham Accident Map: 9 Deaths in a Decade

An international study looked at car accident deaths across the U.S.

A digital map that was released in November by The Guardian revealing road casualties across the United States between 2001 and 2009 includes nine deaths in Dedham or on its border. 

Nearly 370,000 people died from vehicular accidents between 2001 and 2009, according to The Guardian, and ITO World, a group of transport data mapping professionals, put together a display of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

Zooming into the map reveals five deaths caused by motor vehicle accidents along Providence Highway, three along Milton and Bussey streets and one on Dedham Boulevard.

Of the nine deaths related to car accidents, four were pedestrians and two were motorcyclists.

Providence Highway, particularly at its intersections with Bridge Street and Elm Street, are often scenes of fender-benders and three-car accidents.

What's more, the area has been after officials in Westwood and Dedham discussed a proposal for a new healthcare facility on Allied Drive, which juts out from the rotary and lies on the borders of the two towns.
