Boston Power Outages Stretch into Dedham

Hot night in the city, as Boston Fire has responded to several utility pole fires; and are helping the elderly residents of Rockland Towers during a power outage.

 

As of 10:46 p.m., personnel were on scene assisting an elderly resident development at 5300 Washington St., during a power outage, said BFD Spokesperson Steve MacDonald. This outage extends into Dedham.

BFD and NStar have also responded to several utility pole fires, said MacDonald.

"You look up and see a small flame by the transformer. Nstar is all aware of it. Sometimes they just extinguish," said MacDonald.

NStar spokesperson Margaret Coughlin said about 500 to 700 customers have been affected by a power outage in the Chestnut Hill area of West Roxbury, with calls from Sherman Road and Independence Drive, as well as on Washington Street past the Dedham border.

MacDonald said the BFD has received calls about power being out tonight.
