Obituary: Former Dedham Resident Thelma Leone, 86

A Wayland resident, Leone grew up in Dedham.

Thelma Katherine (Barthel) Leone, 86, died peacefully and comfortably surrounded by her family on Thursday, December 26, 2013 following a period of declining health.

She was born in Dedham on September 2, 1927 the daughter of the late Theodore F.W. Barthel and Thecel (Beagan) Barthel.

Thelma is survived by her loving children Paul A. Leone and his wife Jennifer Leone of Lancaster; Edward J. Leone of Cambridge; William T. Leone of Wayland; Patricia A. O’Hara and her husband Sean O’Hara of Framingham and Anne M. Leone Jones and her husband Christopher Jones of Framingham. Also survived by 2 grandchildren. Sister of Rita Bowse of South Dennis; Catherine Craven of Plymouth and the late Freida Herendeen. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the wife of the late Anthony Daniel Leone who died on September 25, 1979.

Thelma has been a resident of Wayland for over 54 years and spent her formative years in the Riverdale section of Dedham and graduated from Dedham High School. She had a long and successful career as a Customer Service Representative in the accounting and data entry departments at Sentry Insurance Company in Concord. She retired after 20 years as the Administrative Assistant at the Carroll School in Lincoln in 2003. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling and was a proud member of the River Rat Club of Dedham. When her daughters were younger she was an active Girl Scout leader for their troops. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother to her family and supported and encouraged them during her lifetime.

Visitations will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.

Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 9:30 am followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Ann’s Church, 124 Cochituate Road (Rte 27), Wayland.

Interment will follow in the Leone family lot in North Cemetery in Wayland.
