Funeral Held for James Bradbury, Longtime Honor Guard Member

Bradbury, a Korean War veteran, was a former firefighter.

 

James Bradbury, a former Dedham firefighter and a Korean War veteran, died Friday.

He was 82.

A funeral was held for him Tuesday at Saint Mary of the Assumption on High Street, and he was buried at Brookdale Cemetery.

Bradbury graduated from Dedham High School in 1947 and is a member of the school's Athletic Hall of Fame.

Bradbury fought in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir, Korea, according to his obituary, and served as a captain of the Dedham American Legion Post 18 Honor Guard.

He was honored by the Dedham Board of Selectmen for his volunteer work as an Honor Guard member in December 2011.

As a show of respect to Bradbury, flags at the American Legion and the Dedham Fire Department were flown at half-staff Tuesday.

He is survived by his wife, Doreen. Bradbury has family ties to former Dedham Fire Chief Robert Cullinane, and Bradbury's grandson, Brian Cullinane, is a Dedham Police officer.

Bradbury is the devoted father of Jeanne A. Cullinane and her fiancé Joseph Thoman of Nashua, NH, Diane F. Higgins and her companion Michael Doyle of New Paltz, NY, James F. Bradbury Jr. and his companion Fely Nadany of Dedham and the late Gail M. O’Connell and her surviving husband John O’Connell of Dedham.

He is the grandfather of Shannon, Brian, Keryn, Lisa, John Jr. Jenna, Jillian and James III. Great grandfather of Cameryn, Brooklyn and Allison. Brother of Margaret Moore of Gilford, NH and the late Frederick and John Bradbury, Kathryn Foley and June Koffinke. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
