Merrell: Giving Back Since 1981

Ever since Randy Merrell made the first Merrell hiking boots in 1981, the Merrell Brand has introduced various innovative shoes that change the way people hike and explore. Merrell takes pride in being an all-American company with firm values. Even with it's beginnings in primarily hiking boots, the company has expanded to much more than that over thirty-three years in the industry. Today, Merrell boasts some of the highest quality hiking boots, apparel, and running shoes.
While Merrell has some of the best products in the business, they are committed to "a better outside". All shoe packaging, paper, and cartons are made from 100% recycled materials. Some of their 'Green Initiatives' include creating miles of walking trails, composting yard waste, planting wildflowers, placing birdhouses, and updating their technology to the newest and most efficient. Specifically to the Dedham location, Merrell participates in a cleanup of the Neponset.
Merrell's service to each community is extended beyond being green. Each location puts their community first and holds them to the highest esteem. Every office has local community service projects and supports local charities that benefit education, youth and environment organizations.  Returned items are donated and given to those who need them most. In addition, Merrell ensures Fair Labor standards and cares immensely about each employee and allows them to inspire others to adventure and get active.
First walking in to Merrell at Legacy Place, there is a sense of comfortability. The atmosphere is different from other stores in the area. It is set apart by its earthy vibes with hints of bright oranges and reds. Instead of the trite and forced "what can I do for you?", the Merrell employee's first question is "Hi! How are you?" which adds to the warmth of the store's already friendly atmosphere. Merrell "has variety" Lisa Wells, manager of the Dedham location, adds. "There is always something to do here". Sales are ensured to be "fun and comfortable". There is a sense of community. Unlike other chain businesses, Merrell has a specific customer base and is described as "niche driven" by employees. The company operates over one hundred stores nationwide, yet makes each one feel unique and local. Customers are encouraged to "'Out Perform', which means to get outside, reach personal bests, and to be fully engaged", a motto Merrell lives by and one we can all benefit from.
