Boston City Singers Dedham concert raises money for choir’s Goodwill Tour to Argentina

Boston City Singers' Tour Choir and World Rhythm Ensemble performed a special spring concert at First Church and Parish in Dedham last weekend to support their trip to Argentina this summer.

May 24, 2013 – Dedham – Boston City Singers’ Tour Choir and World Rhythm Ensemble performed a special spring concert at First Church and Parish in Dedham last weekend. The young people, under the direction of Founder, Artistic and Education Director Jane Money, performed a range of songs, including a Yiddish folk song, a traditional South African hymn, and Irving Berlin’s jazz standard Blue Skies. The World Rhythm Ensemble added to the diverse repertoire with Guinea Fare, a Susu of Guinea, West Africa, as Artist in Residence Kimani Lumsden led the whole audience to join in with the percussionists.

The Tour Choir is made up of 40 singers ages 11-18 from the metro Boston area, including three students from Dedham. They perform dozens of events each year to benefit the community as well as the chorus and youth development programs. Recent events include Children Sing for Peace, a benefit concert for the victims of the marathon tragedy; a fundraising gala to support Massachusetts Eye and Ear with New Kids on the Block’s Joey McIntyre; a performance of the national anthem at Fenway Park for a Red Sox game; and two productions of Carmina Burana with the Back Bay Chorale and Harvard Radcliffe Chorus.

The Tour Choir also shares their gift of song beyond Boston on their bi-annual International Goodwill Tours. Previous international Goodwill Tours have taken singers to New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. This summer, they will embark on a 3-week tour to Argentina. All proceeds from the concert in Dedham went directly to supporting the Tour Fund to ensure that every singer can participate.
