Letter to the Editor: Mayor Hathaway Thanks Supporters

Mary Hathaway's note of thanks to all who came out in support of her successful campaign for Unofficial Mayor of Dedham.

I would like to thank everyone that helped elect me as “Honorary Mayor of Dedham.” Whether it was big or small it was not overlooked! I am truly humbled by this award and moved beyond words at the kindness of all. When the nomination process began I had no idea I was even nominated and was nervous but then all the kind words came rolling in and I got excited.

I am overwhelmed with the support that turned out to my campaign fundraiser at Moseley’s on May 31. I would like to thank my campaign managers, Kelly Hathaway and Diane Hathaway-Gibbons who worked tirelessly on this event. My children and grandchildren for all their love and support! We raised over $6000.00 that evening. We also would like to thank Attorney Michael Walsh who donated his DJ services, Roches Brothers and Eddie Divenzeno of Mosley’s.

I want to thank Tracey White and her committee for running a great campaign! It was so much fun getting to know all of them and of course competing against them too!

Thank you to Tim Robertson and Liz Taurasi of the Dedham Patch for sponsoring the “Mayor Race” again.

Thank you to Bob Stanley of Dedham Parks and Recreation and his team for putting on the Flag Day Parade!

We were fortunate enough to raise $9,100 for Dedham Flag Day. We are donating half to The Second Step of Newton, which assists survivors of domestic violence with transitional and permanent housing, job & career counseling, job training programs as well as helping children heal from the damaging effects of what they have experienced and witnessed. My daughter who is a victim of domestic violence fortunately has a great support system with our family and friends, but I felt it important to support a charity that helps victims that do not have the same support. Thank you for helping me raise awareness to this important charity.

I will never forget this experience and hope it inspires others to be kind and live life to its fullest.

Yours truly,

“Mayor” Mary Hathaway
