A Look Back: Hurricane Irene, Are We Prepared for the Next Storm?

As Hurricane Isaac rips through Louisiana, we wanted to see if Dedham is ready for the next storm.

It was just a year ago when managed to knock down power for  over 5,000 residents.

"We are now working under a better model than the one that was previously in place," Keegan told Dedham Patch.  "NSTAR did go out and trim a lot of debris away from electric  and communication lines during the past year but this is a constant exercise."

Trimming trees is a part of NSTAR's initiative to "increase reliability" during storms.  A resident can also call NSTAR if they believe that a tree is in need of trimming.

But there is still more preparation needed.

"The Town is also taking steps to improve its own communication capacity and structure for responding to natural disasters and other events requiring a coordinated response," Keegan said.
