Oakdale Elementary School Begins New Year with Book Fair !

Everyone agrees, that “reading is fundamental.” Nowhere is that more evident than at the Oakdale Elementary School here in Dedham. Principal Holli Armstrong, along with library and media specialist Meghan Nels, didn`t waste any time to instill that belief in their 300 students in grades 1-5.

One week in to the new school year, the Oakdale staff partnered with the folks at Book Ends of Winchester and set up a book fair in the school`s gym.

Hundreds of books, suitable for children of all ages were on display as the school kicked off the week-long event with a “Breakfast with Books.” There was coffee and pastries available, as parents brought their children in to school early to browse through their choices.

Each Oakdale class will have a turn at visiting the Book Fair during their weekly library time, and Ms. Nels assured the students that she would stay on top of re-ordering the most popular titles.

Ms. Armstrong, herself an avid reader, spends a great deal of time each year showing her students how important and how enjoyable it is to spend time with books. You can go on an adventure and let your mind just drift away in a good book.

The oohs and ahs were plentiful as the doors opened and the first group entered the gym. All of their favorite titles and most of their favorite series of chapter books were available right in front of them. What better way to begin the school year than with a new book!
