Dedham Celebrates Summer with Annual Foam Day …

The weather was perfect, 79 degrees and sunny. Dedham Parks and Recreation Director, Bob Stanley, joined Ju Ju Mucciaccio, Millie Smart and a host of summer camp counselors waiting in the corner of the Dedham Pool Field. Hundreds of local boys and girls, bathing suits and towels ready, paced the field as a group of Dedham Firefighters got things ready. Finally, with hoses in place and all of the connections ready, Lieutenant Mike Huff walked with the long hose and lifted the large red funnel to his shoulder.

The decades long tradition, hosted by Dedham Recreation and the Dedham Fire Department was officially underway. For the better part of the next hour, children and grownups alike, reveled in a field of waist deep foam. Parents and grandparents, held the hands of little ones until they mustered enough courage to venture in on their own. Foam Day in Dedham is a time-honored tradition, and a great way to get together with friends in the middle of Summer.

As Lt. Huff stood his ground in the center of the field, the town`s boys and girls played around him. Off in one corner, Dedham Firefighters had set up a hose to shower off those looking for a fresh start. As one little boy emerged from under the hose, his mother was overheard telling him “that is the cleanest I`ve ever seen you.” On this morning, nothing else mattered and the line on the town`s website held true … “it wouldn`t be summer without a romp in the suds!”
