Forum on Employee Classification

The Human Resources Council of the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce will present a program on Misclassification of Employees on Thursday, February 3rd from 8:00 - 9:00AM at the NVCC office at 190 Vanderbilt Avenue in Norwood.

This is a hot issue lately as the proper categorization of employees can be one of the most confusing legal areas facing Massachusetts businesses.  Correctly determining whether a worker is an independent contractor or employee or whether an employee is exempt or non-exempt employee is critical as the legal risks can be great.  Violations of the laws governing the proper categorization of workers may carry serious liability.  For example, willful violations of Massachusetts wage laws may carry fines of up to $25,000 per violation and non-willful violations may carry fines of up to $10,000 per violation

The speaker will be Attorney John Tocci, of Tocci, Goss & Lee, P.C. in Boston who manages the Firm’s employment and litigation practice.  The program is open to HR professionals, owners, managers and all who deal with HR issues from businesses of all sizes.
