Thanksgiving Booksigning and Fundraiser for Home for Little Wanderers

Saturday November 16th, 2-4 p.m.
Thanksgiving Booksigning and Fundraiser for The Home for Little Wanderers

The Blue Bunny Bookstore at 577 High Street in Dedham Square will be hosting a Thanksgiving Fundraising Event for The Home for Little Wanderers this Saturday November 16th, from 2-4 p.m., with author Donna Seim and illustrator Susan Spellman. Seim and Spellman are the creators of Charley, a children’s novel based on the true story of a twelve-year old boy in 1910 Boston who moves from the support of the New England Home for Little Wanderers to the challenges of living with a dairy-farming family in rural Maine.

The event will include a reading from Charley by author Seim, dressed in period costume, and a drawing demonstration by illustrator Spellman, with a book signing to follow. Other activities will feature Bessie--a cow-milking station where everyone can try their hand at milking, and a chance to play old-time ringer marbles, along with a Thanksgiving card-making table, and refreshments.

A portion of all book sales during the event will be donated to The Home for Little Wanderers, a service agency for children and families in Massachusetts.  For more than 200 years, The Home has earned a reputation for doing whatever it takes to strengthen vulnerable families and keep children safe in their communities, even when they don’t have family support. Serving children and youth from birth to 21, The Home makes a positive impact on over 7,000 lives across Boston and Eastern Massachusetts each year through a network of behavioral health services, therapeutic residential, special education, adoption and foster care. Additionally, a number of innovative programs provide specialized assistance to youth transitioning to adulthood from state systems of care. For more information about its programs, visit www.thehome.org.

As part of the event on Saturday, The Blue Bunny will also be collecting donated toiletries, and art and school supplies for The Home’s programs.  Donations can be dropped off at the store anytime between now and the event. Children and adults of all ages are welcome and encouraged to stop by on Saturday, and help share the spirit of Thanksgiving. For more information, please call the store at 781-493-6568.
