Dr. Peter Gray The Biology of Education: How Children Learn Through Self-Directed Play and Exploration.

Dr. Peter Gray, Boston College research psychologist and Author of Free To Learn will be giving a talk for Bay State Learning Cooperative in support of their innovative learning model. Bay State Learning Cooperative will open their doors in Dedham in the Fall of 2014.

Dr. Gray, a blogger for Psychology Today as well as a research professor at Boston College, is author of the recently published book Free to Learn (Basic Books, 2013) and  Psychology (Worth Publishers, a college textbook now in its 6th edition).  He has conducted and published research in comparative, evolutionary, developmental, and educational psychology. Dr. Gray did his undergraduate study at Columbia University and earned a Ph.D. in biological sciences at Rockefeller University. His current research and writing focus is primarily on children's natural ways of learning and the life-long value of play.

Dr. Gray is a big supporter of what we are doing at BSLC, saying, "My research has convinced me, beyond any doubt, that children and adolescents (and all people) learn best when they are in charge of their own education. I support Bay State Learning Cooperative because it promises to be a place where students will have that power."
