Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect For Dedham

The watch is in effect until 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for several areas of Massachusetts, including Norfolk County.

The watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday night, and could produce heavy rain, strong winds, and frequent lightning.

"Some thunderstorms will likely become severe this afternoon and evening in Southern New England," the watch stated Thursday afternoon. "Thunderstorms with damaging winds and large hail are possible in southern New England from mid-afternoon through the evening."

Heavy rainfall could also cause flooding in various areas, the watch added, and some poor drainage locations such as underpasses could fill up with water quickly.

Adding to that, the storms could produce frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, something the National Weather Service considered a "very serious threat to anyone caught outdoors on land or water."
