Honoring Our Fallen Veterans

The Combined Veterans Council, along with Veterans' Liaison Officer Francis O'Brien, is reaching out to families of deceased Veterans from all Wars. The council and the town are planning to erect memorial signs for deceased Veterans who made the supreme sacrifice during a war.

If you know of a family member, that was living in Dedham at the time of their untimely death during a war please let contact the Dedham Veterans Office at 781-751-9265. Family members such as a husband, father, brother, sister or cousin may be eligible for a memorial sign. These signs will not replace existing street signs but will be placed on top of pre-existing street names. The sign will have the deceased veteran's name, branch of service and conflict they serviced.  It is the hope of the council to place these signs as close to proximity to the Veterans home address. It is also the intentions of the council to have these signs in place and dedicated before Veterans Day 2010.

Dedham public schools returned to the classroom this morning to begin the 2010 school year. It will be the final full school year - if all goes to plan - for Avery School students in their current building. New teachers received orientation at the Endicott Estate last week, and all teachers reported to school yesterday for meetings and their own orientation. If you have pictures of your child on their first day of school, either e-mail them to TimothyR@patch.com, or upload them right on this page.
