Scavenger Hunt, Children’s Cooking Class, Free Movie Featured in This Week's Grab and Go Picks

Join a scavenger hunt at Legacy Place, take the kids to a free muffin making class, support local students in the Dedham spelling bee, attend a free Disney film screening or attend a hunger banquet in Westwood.

For this week’s picks, grab the entire family and join a scavenger hunt, or take the kids to a ‘make your own muffin class’ at Whole Foods, attend the Dedham spelling bee, bring the kids to a free Disney original movie screening or help raise money and learn about the struggles of world hunger.

Why go: The spring weather may not have broken yet, but why not take a few last breaths of the cool winter air with a scavenger hunt around Legacy Place? Collect clues around the mall and match them up with a list of countries that receive funding for microcredit loans from the Whole Planet Foundation – an organization that helps lift people in developing nations out of poverty. Worksheets may be picked up and dropped off at Whole Foods.

Why go: Bring the kids for this FREE cooking class using whole grains and fruit. Each child will leave with a yummy (and healthy) batter they can bake, enjoy and share with the entire family! For ages 3-7, but all children are welcome. Registration recommended.

Why go: It’s very likely both parents and children have watched and admired those young children in the National Spelling Bee each May. Here is an opportunity to see one live and cheer on local students in grades three through eight as they test their spelling skills!

Why go: Bring the kids for a free screening of the upcoming Disney Channel original movie of five high school teens who receive detention and form their own band. The distribution of free passes has already begun, so call Legacy Place guest services today to get a seat!

Where/When: , 340 Clapboardtree St., Westwood, Sunday, March 27, 5:30-7 p.m.

Why go: While not everyone in the family will leave this event with full stomachs, the experience will educate and engage everyone on problems of global hunger and poverty. On arrival, each guest draws a ticket randomly assigning them to a high, middle or low income tier and is served a corresponding meal. The 15 percent in the high-income tier are served a gourmet meal. The 25 percent in the middle-income section eat a simple meal of rice and beans. The 60 percent in the low-income tier receive rice and water. An interactive script is read during the meal time by two student emcees engaging the audience with a few surprises.
